The origin of this tomato is believed to be from Dr. Harold Martin, who was a hobby gardener and a dentist. He did not release the tomato in the 1920s when it was first selected, but it was released later by a person who inherited Dr. Martin’s collection. Initially there were some concerns about the variability of the variety, and it has taken time for people to judge the plant. It is indeterminate and purple-maroon in color, weighing 5 to 8 ounces. It has a sweet fruity flavor. The current selection from the collection is a regular leaf type.
